A cold front that moved through Southwest Florida is expected to chill the recent summerlike temperatures.

“It’ll be cooling off pretty rapidly behind (the front),” said Jennifer Colson, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Ruskin, Fla.

Highs today are expected to reach only the low 70s with overnight lows in the 40s for most of Charlotte and Sarasota counties. Inland areas, such as DeSoto County, could see temperatures in the mid-30s.

“There could be a little bit of frost with that,” Colson said. “We’re not expecting any freezing temperatures.”

Friday’s high temperatures also will be in the low 70s with mostly sunny skies.

“It should start to get a little warmer each day of the weekend,” Colson said.

Temperatures over the weekend will begin climbing into the mid-70s with mostly sunny skies. Overnight lows are expected to be in the mid- to upper 40s.
