A day of holiday hijinks that could have turned tragic led to a massive multi-agency manhunt for two men who were left behind by fellow boaters pulling a prank. The murky details of the boating incident in the shallow waters off the Cape Haze peninsula, the involvement of two Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office employees and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s decision not to charge any of the people involved raised serious questions.
