As a highly successful graduate of Harvard Law School, Barack Obama was in a position on graduating to take a very high-paying job with a prestigious law firm. Instead he opted to become a community organizer with strong principles about getting people to work together for community progress. As president of the United States, he repeatedly has been the object of derision by Republicans for this role in trying to improve the quality of American community life.
