In the General Election held in 2010, 52 percent of Charlotte County voters exercised their right to vote. Conversely, 48 percent of registered voters failed to cast their ballot. In light of this poor voter turnout, we would do well to remember the words of then U.S. Sen. John F. Kennedy, who in his book, “Profiles in Courage,” wrote some 50 years ago:
