Sylvester J. Kempf, 78, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012, in Port Charlotte.

He was born Oct. 8, 1933, in Shelby, Ohio.

Sylvester moved to Port Charlotte in 1987, from Shelby. He was a retired typesetter and a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, and Knights of Columbus in Port Charlotte.

He is survived by his children, Vickie (Dennis) Dunn of Port Charlotte, and Chris (Trish) Kempf of Kaneohe, Hawaii; sisters, Ruth Muth of North Carolina, and Agnes Gerster of Shelby; brothers, Kenny Kempf and Allen Kempf both of Shelby, Verlin Kempf of Sebring, Fla.; grandchildren, Dinay (Jason) Baun, and Devin Dunn; and great-grandchild, Alexis Eileen Baun. Sylvester is preceded in death by his wife, Eileen Kempf.

There will be a visitation from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, with a Catholic wake service at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 31, 2012, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Port Charlotte.
