Edward A. Smith Jr., 77, of Punta Gorda, Fla., and formerly of Buffalo, N.Y., passed away suddenly at his home Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born June 21, 1935, in Buffalo.

Edward was a retired Charlotte County, Fla., foreman in the Public Works Department.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary; daughters, Terry Smith, Danelle McCool, Shelley Smith, Kelly Smith and Gerelyn McKenzie; stepdaughter, Carol Ann Wandell; and brother, James A. Smith. Edward was preceded in death by his daughter, Teddi Smith.

A celebration of his life will be held from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6. 2012, in the chapel at Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home. Inurnment will be private at a later date in the Sunrise Mausoleum at Charlotte Memorial Gardens.
