Patrick William “Pat” Howells, 63, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012.

He was born in Washington, D.C., March 22, 1949.

Pat grew up in Maryland, graduating from Wheaton High School. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1969, where he served in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in 1972. He then moved to Pensacola, Fla., where he completed his B.A. degree in Criminal Justice while serving as a deputy sheriff with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. Pat retired as Lieutenant after 30 years of service. Pat then moved to Port Charlotte to be close to his family.

He is survived by his daughter, Kristina (John) Mulholland of Florida; son, Michael (Melissa) Howells of Florida; grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Johnny and William; sister, Connie Wesley of Maryland; brother, Stephen Howells of Maryland; and father, Riley T. Brown of Virginia.

Friends and family will be received from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. today, Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, at Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home, 2405 Harbor Blvd., Port Charlotte. Military burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 3, 2012, at Sarasota National Cemetery on State Road 72 in Sarasota, Fla.
