Charles C. Ballard
Charles C. Ballard, 91, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012, at Harbor Health Center.
He was born in Akron, Ohio.
Charles came to this area in 1981 from Wilmington, Del., when he retired as Design Manager in the Engineering Department of DuPont Co., by which he was employed for 33 years. He served in the U.S. Army 9th Armored Division for three and a half years during World War II, and was discharged, a Captain, Cavalry. Charles attended Akron University and The Ohio State University, where he received a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering. He was a member of the Isles Yacht Club; the Kingsway Country Club, where he served as president of the Board of Directors in 1986; and American Legion Post 110. Charles was a volunteer counselor on the AARP Tax Counseling service for the Elderly program, starting in 1987.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; sons, Paul of Bridgewater, Mass., Jeffrey of Bonita Springs, Fla., and James of Charlotte, N.C.; sister, Ruth Schieb of Chelsea, Mich.; and six grandchildren.
