Leonard Melanson

Leonard Melanson, 92, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Monday, Sept. 3, 2012.

He was born Jan. 15, 1920, in Waltham, Mass., and was the son of Louis and Sylvia (nee Roberts) Melanson.

Leonard served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked as a machinist for Waltham Watch Factory until he started his own shop in 1949, and did precision machine work for Raytheon, MIT, etc., until he retired in 1992. Leonard was one of the founders of the Maynard Little League, and was president for many years. He was a member of the Maynard Lodge of Elks and Maynard Country Club, serving as its president for a few years. Leonard came to Punta Gorda in 199, from Stow, Mass., and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

He will be greatly missed by his son, Leonard (Lynne) Melanson of Punta Gorda; son-in-law, Gerald Dee of Brookline, N.H.; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Leonard was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Arlene; son, Raymond Melanson; and daughter, Sandra Dee Melanson.

A service will be private. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, Attn: Memorials, P.O. Box 21475, St. Petersburg, FL 33742.
