Miriam W. Pultz-Bein
Miriam W. Pultz-Bein, 92, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012, at Signature Health Care of Port Charlotte.
She was a daughter of Herbert and Harriet Woods, and a direct descendant of a first settler of Stamford, Conn., Daniel Finch. A graduate of Beaver College and the University of Bridgeport, Miriam taught history, French and Spanish at Stamford High School from 1947 until 1961, and retired as dean of Rippowan High School in 1972. She moved to Port Charlotte in 1978 from Connecticut. Miriam was a member of First Church of Christ Scientist of Port Charlotte, Beaver College Alumni, and of L’Amicale of Middlebury, Vt. She was a former president of Alpha Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, and a life member of the Retired Teachers of Connecticut. While dean, Miriam promoted the international exchanges of students, and traveled to Europe and South America with her students.
She is survived by her loving family, including a granddaughter, Debra O. Boyer of Falls Village, Conn.; stepdaughters, Kelly L. Spiers of Connecticut, and Marlene Gokenbach and Linda Traina of St. Louis, Mo.; brother-in-law, Robert Norloff of St. Petersburg Beach, Fla.; a niece; and two nephews. Miriam was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Joy Andersen Sorenson; a sister, Carol W. Norloff; and her husband, Anthony E. Bein.
Graveside services and inurnment will be held at a later date at Roxbury Cemetery in Stamford.
