Patricia M. Cecil
Patricia M. “Pat” Cecil, 90, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012, in the comfort of her home in Punta Gorda Isles, where she had lived for 42 years.
She was born in Tacoma, Wash., to Leonore and Francis Joseph Machemer.
Pat grew up in Bellingham, Wash., where she graduated from Bellingham High School and attended Western Washington College. After working for the The Boeing Company, she joined the Women’s Army Corps in 1944, where she worked as a Flight Traffic Clerk and eventually met her future husband and lifetime partner. Married in 1947, Pat and Walter M. Cecil Jr. lived the life of an Air Force family, raising two sons and living in various locations until retiring in Punta Gorda in 1970. Active in volunteer work all of her life, she was recognized for her work with the American National Red Cross, the American Cancer Society, the Punta Gorda Civic Association, the Officers’ Wives Club, and was a founding board member of the Punta Gorda Isles Yacht Club. Pat was an outstanding golfer and spent many hours on the tennis court, but her first love was boating and traveling with her family.
She is survived by her sons, Walter M. Cecil III of San Francisco, Calif., and Geoffrey Cecil of Houston, Texas; and granddaughter, Caitlin M. Cecil of Dallas, Texas.
