Mildred L. “Millie” Horner, 80, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012.

She was born Dec. 20, 1931, in Madison, Fla., to Russell and Mildred Bowers.

Millie had worked as a cashier for over 20 years at the Eckerd Drug Store (then CVS) in Punta Gorda, before retiring in the late ’90s. She enjoyed fishing and caring for her family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Patricia (Rich) Gunter of DeBary, Fla., Sara (Harold) Russell of Pierceton, Ind., Kenny (Regina) Horner of Punta Gorda, Eugene (Malinda) Horner of Punta Gorda, Diane (Walter) Morgan of Folkston, Ga., and Debbie (Ken) Kelly of Morganton, N.C.; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brother, Wilton Bowers of Jacksonville, Fla.; as well as extended family and friends. Millie was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Horner, in 1993.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the funeral service at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, at Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home, 635 E. Marion Ave., Punta Gorda.
