Rosemary “Rosie” Royse Mills, 90, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012, at the Elizabeth House, a Hospice House, near her daughters’ homes in Hendersonville, N.C.

She was born April 29, 1922, in Amity, Ind., to Charles and Monta Sutherland Royse.

After Rosemary’s mother’s death later that year, Charles married Angeline Sutton Leser. She was lovingly raised on their farm in Amity, and was a 1940 graduate of Edinburgh High School. In 1941, Rosemary married her high school sweetheart, Dan Mills. They recently celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary. Rosemary resided and raised two daughters in the Indianapolis, Ind., area, and she and Dan were charter members of Southport Christian Church. They moved to Punta Gorda, Fla., in 1986, where they have been active members of Burnt Store Presbyterian Church. Rosie was lovingly devoted to her family, loyal to her many friends, and had a wonderful smile that could light up a room.

She is survived by her husband, Dan Mills; daughters, Sharon Mills of Hendersonville, and Judy Mills Gower of Punta Gorda and Hendersonville; nephew and niece, Bill Leser and Patricia Leser Allen, both of Franklin, Ind.; great-niece; and great-nephews; and close family friends, Deirdre Hulihan and Susan Doty Pardue. Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Hortense Royse Leser; and her brother-in-law, Charneal Leser, both of Franklin.

There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, at Burnt Store Presbyterian Church in Punta Gorda. A reception will follow at 1 p.m. at South Port Square in Port Charlotte. To sign the online register book, please visit www.shulerfuneralhome.com.
