Andrew Kowerko, 56, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Monday, Sept. 24, 2012.

He was born in Yonkers, N.Y., March 22, 1956.

Andrew came to Florida 25 years ago. He was an active member and volunteer at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in North Port, Fla. Andrew was also a member of the Ukrainian American Club of Southwest Florida, the Ukrainian American Youth Association, and the Ukrainian Congress Committee. He served as a regional representative of the Spina Bifida Association, and a president of the residents council at Consulate Healthcare.

Andrew is survived by his family members, including his sister, Orysia Husak of Sammamish, Wash.; and nephew, Damian (Deidre) Husak, and their family, also of Sammamish. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Teodosia Kowerko.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, at Farley Funeral Home, North Port Chapel. Services will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at Farley Funeral Home, and will continue with a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in North Port. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Spina Bifida Association, 4590 MacArthur Blvd. NW, Suite 250, Washington, DC 20007.

Arrangements are by Farley Funeral Home.
