Ralph R. Mazza Jr.
Ralph R. Mazza Jr., 91, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012.
He was born Sept. 13, 1921, the son of Gertrude (nee Rahm) and Ralph Mazza Sr., in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Ralph attended James Madison High School and served in the U.S. Coast Guard as a Machinist Mate 2nd class during World War II, then graduated from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn in 1955. He worked as a Designing Engineer for American Machine and Foundry (AMF) for 42 years. Ralph retired in 1983 and moved from Wallingford, Conn., to Port Charlotte. He was a member of Port Charlotte Garden Club for 24 years, the Coast Guard Auxiliary for 27 years, and the Holy Trinity Men’s Club. Ralph was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Port Charlotte, and served as a Church Councilman. He was a Boy Scout Master of Wallingford, and at St. James Lutheran Church served as Sunday School Superintendent, and Director of Luther League of Brooklyn.
Ralph will be greatly missed by his wife of 69 years, Lorraine (nee Schlytter); daughters, Dale (John) Hahn and LeeAnn (Robert) Ferriola; sons, Ralph (Jacquelyne) Mazza and James (Patricia) Mazza; sister, Gertrude (Andrew) Hendry; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Port Charlotte.
