John R. Marx, 79, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Friday, Oct. 5, 2012.

He was born Nov. 12, 1932, and was the son of George and Ruth (nee Sheehy) Marx, in Chicago, Ill.

John served in the U.S. Army from 1953 until 1955, and then worked in research for Continental Can Co. as a Metallurgist. He moved from Chicago to Punta Gorda in 1999. John was a member of the American Legion Post 103, Elks Lodge #2606, VFW Post 5690, and Adjutant for American Legion Post 103 and 13th District for a number of years. He was of the Catholic faith and enjoyed golf, fishing and gardening.

John will be greatly missed by his wife of 56 years, Dottie; daughter, Cherie Marx; son, John Marx Jr.; sister, Elizabeth Griffith; grandchildren, Danielle and Matthew; and many nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Mariruth.
