James S. Karafa

James S. Karafa, 76, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, in Port Charlotte.

He was born March 25, 1936, in Johnstown, Pa., and came to Port Charlotte in 1991 from Cleveland, Ohio.

James was an accountant for General Motors Corporation, retiring in 1991 after 30 years of service. He also served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 until 1959.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Patricia Karafa of Port Charlotte; daughter, Christine E. Karafa (Manne) Strand of Pompano Beach, Fla.; grandchildren, Jason and Amanda Hammack; and sister, Betty Karafa of Johnstown. James was preceded in death by his son, Steven J. Karafa, who passed away in 2001.
