Robert D. “Bob” Shanks, 74, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, after a brave battle with cancer.

He was born Nov. 29, 1937, in Ashland, Ky., to William and Virginia Shanks.

Bob worked as an Electrical Engineer with Armco Steel before retiring. He was a fabulous cook, an avid fisherman, and was an automotive enthusiast. Bob’s current love was his 1954 Chevy Step-side “Yukon Gold” Pickup. He was a Life member of Elks Lodge 2606 in Punta Gorda. He enjoyed life and loved being “on the road” on his Harley, or in his RV. Bob was proud to have the distinction of being a “Kentucky Colonel.”

He is survived by his daughters, Terri Shanks (L.J.) Osborne, Beth Shanks (Jim) Rous, and Julie Shanks (Steve) Yates; grandchildren, Caitlin Osborne, David Rous, Heather (fiancé, Ryan Weeks) Rous, Jacob Yates and Jonah Yates; and brother, William E. Shanks. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ellen Mansfield Shanks; and second wife, Patty Hager Shanks.

A Celebration of Bob’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at the Elks Lodge, 25538 Shore Drive, Punta Gorda.
