Carl W. Snethkamp
Carl W. Snethkamp, 96, formerly of 119 S. Main St., St. Marys, Ohio, and a longtime resident of North Port, Fla., passed away Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at Tidewell Hospice in Port Charlotte, Fla.
He was born Sept. 13, 1916, in St. Marys, the son of Henry and Lola (nee Gallimore) Snethkamp.
Carl married Virginia Dine Aug. 13, 1938, and she preceded him in death Dec. 27, 1981. He married Dorothy Stroudt June 18, 1994, and she survives at the residence in North Port. Carl was a 1933 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School. He had worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in St. Marys, and retired in 1981 as the President of St. Marys Iron and Steel Company. Carl was a member of Idlewild Men’s Club in St. Marys of Sertoma; the Knights of Columbus, and the Lima Elks. He loved golfing and was a longtime member of “The Iron Men,” a local musical group that performed at festivals and parties. Carl was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Marys, and San Pedro Catholic Church in North Port.
He is also survived by his children, Josie Goodwin of Englewood of Ohio, James (Ruth Ann) Snethkamp of St. Marys, Tony Snethkamp of New Bremen, Ohio; grandchildren, Melissa Wallace, Nancy Henne, Sally Moore, Emily Rasor, Scott Snethkamp and Steve Snethkamp; 15 great-grandchildren; and brother, Glen Snethkamp of St. Marys. Carl was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Virgina Snethkamp; sister, Ruth Burris; and infant son, Billy.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Marys, with Father Barry Stechschulte as celebrant. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery in St. Marys. Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today, Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, at the Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home, 314 W.High St., St. Marys, Ohio, where memorial gifts may be given to: Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Tidewell Hospice, Agape Ministries in St. Marys, or the Lake Improvement Association in St. Marys.
