Stanley Wrobel
Stanley Wrobel, 90, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012.
He was born April 14, l922, the son of Michael and Catherine (nee Pasternak) Wrobel, in New Kensington, Pa.
Stan was a Sgt. in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific theatre with the 98th Infantry Iriquois Division, and while in service was offered a minor league contract with the St. Louis Cardinals as a catcher. He moved to this area from Armonk, N.Y. in 1959. He was a Rural Mail Carrier for the Post Office in Punta Gorda for 38 years. Stan was a charter member of Elks Lodge #2606, American Legion Post #110, and the United Methodist Church of Port Charlotte, Fla. He was very athletic and enjoyed bowling and golfing. Stanley won the SWF Bowling Association All Events Championship in 1969, and in 1982, was National League Golf Champion of the Port Charlotte Men’s Golf Association.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 61 years, Anna; daughter, Lynda (Vic) Hansen of Naples, Fla.; son, Glenn Stanley Wrobel of N. Palm Beach, Fla.; and sister, Alice Thomas of Decatur, Ga.
