Edwin Richard Rutherford, 89, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at his residence.

He was born July 27, 1923, in Detriot, Mich.

Edwin moved to Punta Gorda in 1993, from Michigan. He was veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Navy, was a retired teacher, Associate professor, football coach at Michigan State University, and member of San Antonio Catholic Church in Port Charlotte, Fla.

Edwin is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Antonia A. Rutherford of Port Charlotte; daughters, Ann Weisenburger, Karen Przytulski both of Port Charlotte, Carlo Simmons, Janice Paulson, and Rosemary all of Michigan; sons, Douglas Rutherford, and Frank Rutherford both of Michigan; sister, Rosemary Davis of Pennsylvania; 14 grandchildren; and three great -grandchildren.

There will be a visitation from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, with a Catholic Prayer Service and military honors by the U.S. Navy at 11 a.m. at Roberson Funeral Home, Port Charlotte Chapel. There will be a memorial mass at a later date. Inurnment will be held at a later date at San Antonio Catholic Church Memorial Garden. Memorial Contributions may be made in memory of Edwin R.
