Leon D. Wright
Leon D. Wright, 101, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012.
He migrated to this area from Troy, Ohio in 1979, where he plied his trade as a tailor. Leon owned and managed the Wright’s Tailoring Establishment from which he retired in 1973. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Port Charlotte, and was one of the founders of the Desserter’s Club. Leon enjoyed lifetime membership status in the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and was chairman of Life Membership for the Charlotte Co. Chapter of that organization. He was a passionate gardener, but caring for the poor and needy was even more important to him.
Leon is survived by his daughter, Veronica Goldson and husband, Selvin; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; grand niece, Veronica Walters Betts and husband, Eddie; nephews and other nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Gwynn, in 1998.
Visitation from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at Kays-Ponger and Uselton Funeral Home, 2405 Harbor Blvd., Port Charlotte, FL. Funeral services at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at First Presbyterian Church of Port Charlotte, 2230 Hariet St. N.E., Port Charlotte, FL.
