Marie (nee Tolon) Godwin Berger, 74, passed away peacefully Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, in her assisted-living home in Cherry Hill, N.J.

Marie grew up in Philadelphia, Pa., and retired in Port Charlotte, Fla. She traveled extensively and lived in many states and countries, but in her adult life Toms River, N.J., was her primary home. She was truly ahead of her time. Marie was in local politics in the ’60s, and became a small-business owner in the early ’80s. Marie’s business accomplishments include being the first female President of the Toms River Kiwanis, and she was also the President and a founding member of the Ocean County Business Association. Marie will be remembered by all for her big smile, creative spirit, strong will, determination and generosity.

She is survived by her son, Frank (Amy) Godwin of Pennsylvania; daughters, Marie K. Godwin of Ohio, and Bernadette Godwin of New Jersey; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a large extended family with many friends, new and old. Marie was preceded in death by her first husband, Francis J. Godwin, in 1993; her second husband, Victor Berger, in 2008; and her daughter, Roseanne Kehr, in 2012.

Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation from 7 p.m. until the Funeral Sevice at 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at Bradley Funeral Home in Marlton, N.J. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to www.curepsp.org to further the research of a little-known disease that took Marie at too young an age.

Arrangements are by Bradley Funeral Home, Marlton.
