Carmelo Piazza, 86, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at Tidewell Hospice, Venice, Fla.

He was born Feb. 7, 1926, in Staten Island, N.Y., and moved to Port Charlotte in 1981, from Staten Island.

Carmelo was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and was retired from the City of New York Housing Authority.

Survived by his loving family, wife, Josephine Piazza of Port Charlotte; daughter, Pastor Sarah (Christopher) Jansson of North Port, Fla.; and son, Charles (Gayle) Piazza of Cape Coral, Fla.; four grandchildren, Daniel Caimi, Vinney (Tracy) Caimi, Melissa Caimi and Elizabeth Piazza; and two great-grandchildren, Reid Caimi and Josie Caimi.

Visitation will be held 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, with a service at 11 a.m. at Roberson Funeral Home Port Charlotte Chapel. Interment and military honors by an U.S. Army Honor Guard will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Port Charlotte.
