Kenneth E. Pike, 87, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013.

He was the son of John and Hattie (nee Dickens) Pike, born Jan. 18, 1926, in Detroit, Mich.

Kenneth served as a U.S. Marine during World War II, where he was in the first wave during the invasion of Saipan and Tinian. He was a police officer in Dearborn, Mich., for six years, prior to opening Daly’s Drive, which he owned from 1959 to 1973. In 1973, he moved to Rotonda, Fla., and opened Pike’s Place. Kenneth was an artist; he enjoyed oil painting, as well as chalk and pen-and-ink drawing. He was also a “jack of all trades.” Kenneth was a member of the Kiwanis in Michigan, and the American Legion. He was of the Catholic faith, and was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Dearborn.

Kenneth will be greatly missed by his daughters, Gail (Christopher) Eldred, Susan (Gary) Schreier and Barbara (Andy) Kolba; sons, Kenneth J. (Sylvia) Pike and David (Debbie) Pike; daughter-in-law, Diane Neal; sister, Menta Foy; grandchildren, Timothy, Tammy, Stacey, Kenny, Kristen, Jennifer, Stephanie, Samuel, Abigail, Clinton, Nicole, Christopher, Kevin and Michael; 19 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 62 years, Regina; and son, Michael.

A Memorial Service and Gathering will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services.
