Homeless father, stepson charged in beating
PORT CHARLOTTE — Authorities arrested a homeless man and his 14-year-old stepson Tuesday for allegedly beating another homeless man so severely he had to be airlifted to Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers for treatment, according to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office.
Lee Edward Alan Hill, 43, and the boy were both charged with aggravated battery in connection with the incident, which allegedly took place underneath the northbound U.S. 41 bridge early Tuesday morning.
According to a report, a badly beaten man entered the RaceTrac gas station in Charlotte Harbor around 2 a.m. asking for help. He was taken to Fawcett Memorial Hospital, but the severity of his injuries, which included broken facial bones and bleeding in his brain, required him to be airlifted to Lee Memorial’s trauma center.
Deputies met with Hill, the boy, and the boy’s mother, who told authorities she left their camp under the bridge to get beer after an argument erupted between the two men and the boy. When she returned, Hill and her son both had blood on them, and they told her they beat the victim, the report states.
Hill and the boy were arrested and transported to the Charlotte County Jail. Hill remains in jail without bond, while the boy was taken to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Fort Myers.
