PORT CHARLOTTE — Former North Port city commissioner David Garofalo was arrested on two counts of battery early Saturday morning, according Bob Carpenter, spokesman for the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office.

Garofalo, 36, was allegedly at a Punta Gorda bar with a North Port woman when they were involved in an altercation. Witnesses called police after the couple left the bar headed toward Port Charlotte.

The CCSO received a Be On the Look Out bulletin for the vehicle in which the couple left the bar. The pair were pulled over shortly afterward in Port Charlotte along U.S. 41. According to Carpenter, both had dried blood on them.

Garofalo was arrested. He posted $10,000 bond and was released Saturday.

No further information about the incident was available late Saturday.

Garofalo, who is also a Pasco County fire captain, was arrested in Indianapolis in May on a driving while intoxicated charge. He was arrested after he flipped his vehicle and was trapped. He was with a North Port woman, who was not his estranged wife, attending a funeral. His next hearing for the out-of-state DWI is in January.

Garofalo, who served the city for the past eight years, could not be reached for comment Saturday.

CHARLOTTE COUNTY — Beginning Monday, the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office will increase traffic enforcement at the following locations:

Speed enforcement:

• Entire length of Burnt Store Road, Punta Gorda.

• Entire length of Midway Boulevard, Port Charlotte.

Traffic light/stop sign enforcement:

• Jones Loop Road and Interstate 75/Exit 161, Punta Gorda.

• U.S. 41 and Toledo Blade Boulevard, Port Charlotte.

• Edward Wilcox, 23, of Tampa. Charge: violation of probation. Bond: $1,000.

• Vincent Nicholas Borrero, 21, 3000 block of Maplewood Road, Punta Gorda. Charge: violation of probation. Bond: none.

• Kevin Patrick Reagan, 42, 1200 block of W. Marion Ave., Punta Gorda. Charges: DUI — third in 10 years and off-bond recommit on two counts. Bond: none.

• Steven Francis Carey, 51, 900 block of Bayard St., Port Charlotte. Charges: violation of pretrial release conditions, failure to appear and DUI. Bond: $150,000.

• Donald Carlo Acquarell, 25, 1000 block of Fletcher St., Port Charlotte. Charges: criminal mischief and two counts of resisting an officer. Bond: $8,500.

• Spencer Allen Hoffman, 38, 22200 block of Queens Ave., Port Charlotte. Charges: possession of cocaine with the intent to sell and possession of cocaine. Bond: $7,500.

• Walter Burnett Johnson, 37, 22400 block of New York Ave., Port Charlotte. Charges: failure to appear and failure to have vehicle insurance. Bond: $6,000.

• Nathan Henry Tuset, 29, homeless in Port Charlotte. Charges: possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bond: $3,000.

• Teara Anne Sander, 22, 3600 block of Harbor Blvd., Port Charlotte. Charges: two counts of battery and off-bond recommit. Bond: none.

• Amanda Jean Push, 17, 2100 block of Hyatt Drive, Port Charlotte. Charge: aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. She was transferred to a Department of Juvenile Justice facility.
