NORTH PORT — Lemon Bay High School freshman Abby Weinfeld tries to stay happy and collected before races, something that might be difficult considering she’s only run two of them in her high school career.

Her dad, Dan, isn’t allowed too close before the race begins because he might make her nervous. Once she starts, though, he can run along the course with her and cheer her on.
