PORT CHARLOTTE — The branches of an oak tree probably saved Erik Barnes on the first playoff hole at the Charlotte County Open on Sunday. David Hronek received no such courtesy on the second.

Hronek hooked his approach shot into the green on the second playoff hole at Riverwood Golf and Country Club, opening the door for Sarasota’s Erik Barnes to win his first Charlotte County Open.
