PUNTA GORDA — This time, Lemon Bay High School didn’t jump all over an in-county opponent early. This time, there was no magical comeback, as the Mantas had conjured against St. Petersburg Catholic.

Charlotte made sure of that in a 40-0 rout of Lemon Bay on Friday night at Tarpon Stadium. A lethal dose of Clyde Newton and timely defensive stops sealed the Mantas’ fate, and Charlotte grabbed the inside track to capturing the District 7A-11 title.
