SARASOTA COUNTY — The Sarasota County School Board approved one charter school
applicant for the 2013-2014 school year Tuesday, but denied two others.

Unanimously approved
was the Sarasota Academy of the Arts, a school that will combine academics with visual and performing arts programs in North County. Board Member Shirley Brown moved approval of t he application because they met or partially met all state-mandated requirements.
