Richard Joseph “Dick” Swan, age 69, died as the result of a chain reaction auto accident on Interstate 65 in northern Jasper County early morning, Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012.

He was born in Frankfort, Ind., Jan. 31, 1943, son of the Late Milton L. and Dorothy Marie Kaser Swan. He was a graduate of Jefferson School in Jefferson, Clinton County.

Richard had served in the U.S. States Army and retired from GTE. He moved back to Indiana in 2010 and was employed at Deer Creek Golf Course, Frankfort. Prior to moving back, he had lived in Venice, Fla., where he owned and operated a lawn service and a sports pub. He belonged to the American Legion, Navy Club, VFW and Moose Lodge. He loved golfing, NASCAR, going to the horse track and dog tracks, euchre and spending time with extended family. Being quite the singer, Dick could often be found involved in karaoke.

Surviving are five daughters, Rhonda “Roni” (Marc) Ambrose of North Port, Fla., Sonya (Kevin) Baumis of West Lafayette, Ind., Randi (Gary) McElwee of Veedersburg, Ind., April (Steve) Talbott, Shelton, Wash., and Amber Swan of Lafayette, Ind.; a sister, Mary Swan, of Frankfort; a brother, Charlie Swan of Frankfort; and 12 grandchildren.

Services: A celebration of Dick’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 9, at the Green Diamond, 2067 South Tamiami Trail, Venice. Visit www.familyandfriendsfh.com to leave a message or condolence.

Contributions: In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be directed for the continued care of his daughter Amber, who suffers with cerebral palsy.
