Eugene G. Ian, 98 of Nokomis, Fla. passed away Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at Venice Regional Medical Center.

Eugene was born Feb. 19, 1914, in Romania. Ian is survived by his wife, Eliza, of Nokomis; son, Andrew Ian and wife, Debbie, of Atkinson, N.H.; granddaughter, Jaime Ian of Brunswick, N.Y.; and son, Eric Ian of Boulder, Colo. Ian was preceded in death by his sisters, Lolita and Constanza.

Ian escaped from communist Romania in 1968 with his wife, Eliza, and two years later brought his son Andrew to the United States, where they could all start a free life together. He was a professional architect and engineer with Gibbs & Hill located in New York City. He and his wife, Eliza, moved to Nokomis, Fla. in 1979, where he worked for Conyers & West in Sarasota, where he was instrumental in the development of several buildings in Sarasota.

Services: Services for Eugene will be held later next week in Plaistow, N.H. Ewing Funeral Home, Venice, is in charge of local arrangements.
