Leonard E. “Brownie” Brown, age 88, of Elkin, N.C., passed away Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012, at the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.

Mr. Brown was born in Burksville, Ky., March 3, 1924, to the late Porter and Allie Brown. He served in the U.S. Army and was a World War II veteran and a member of Cool Springs Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by five brothers; two sisters; grandchildren Shawn Williams, Jason Galehouse and Amanda Galehouse; and a special nephew, John Henderson.

Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Judy Sprague Brown, of the home; children Robert Scott Galehouse of Elkin, Pam Williams and husband, Jim, of, Venice, Debbie Lynn Hunt and husband, Gordon, of Wappingers Falls, N.Y., Ronnie Brown of Port Charlotte , Fla., Billy Galehouse and wife, Ruby, of North Port, Fla., and Linda Hernandez of Indianapolis, Ind.; sisters Betty Cross of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Ann Bump of Kentucky; grandchildren Jeremy Galehouse, Krista Gwyn, Andrew Galehouse, Joshua Galehouse, Jessica Galehouse, Kasey Leigh Sneed and husband, Cory, Kylie Ann Hunt, Taylor Jean Hunt and Adom Hernandez; 12 great-grandchidlren; and several loving nieces and nephews.

Services: Memorial services were held Friday, Sept. 28, at Cool Springs Baptist Church, by the Rev. David Key and Yadkin VFW Post 10346. Johnson Funeral Home, www.johnson-funeral.com, of Elkin is serving the family of Mr. Brown.

Contributions: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cool Springs Baptist Church or Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home.
