Josephine Suter Kronfield passed away Saturday, Oct. 14, 2012, succumbing to cancer with courage and dignity.

Jo Suter was born Oct. 7,1920, in Waterville, Ohio. Her family tree is traced back to the Pennsylvania and Massachusetts colonies of the 1600s.

Josephine enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 as a WAVE and served as an aviation metalsmith in Banana River Naval Air Station, Fla. She worked on war-damaged aircraft, returning them to fighting condition. She remained active in WAVE organizations throughout her life, staying in contact with her colleagues of that period. She went on Honor Flight for World War II New Jersey veterans last year, and has her memoirs recorded in the Library of Congress.

Upon her return to Toledo in 1945, she married her hometown sweetheart, Herbert Kronfield, who first met her on his paper route as a teen. While raising her children, she worked at Wonder Bread and Sealtest Dairy in Toledo, Ohio, as an accountant. When Herbert retired in 1981, the couple moved to Venice, where they were active in the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans. Jo was also proud to be an active member and officer of S.H.H.H.

Herb passed away in 2009, just after the couple’s 63rd anniversary. Josephine then moved to Bedminster, N.J., to be closer to family. In just a few short years, Jo’s delightful nature, loving smile and sense of humor drew many people to her and she made many friends in her new home. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Josephine was preceded in death by her brother, Byron, and sister, Dorothy. She is survived by her loving children, Paul Kronfield and his wife, Wei-Hong, of Houston, Texas, Vicki Golden and her husband, John, of Bedminster, N.J., and Patricia Moseley and her husband, Mark, of Bend, Ore. She is also survived by five loving grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services: A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at the Church of St. James, 1840 South Finley Ave., Basking Ridge, N.J. Interment will be at Sarasota National Cemetery, in Sarasota, next to her husband. Arrangements are by Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home. Visit gcfuneralhome.com.
