Gordon James Curnow passed away peacefully Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, following a courageous battle with leukemia.

Born Feb. 27, 1932, in Port Huron, Mich., Gordon was the oldest child of Gordon and L. Ruth (Burgett) Curnow. He received his undergraduate degree in finance from Michigan State University in 1954 and later completed his MBA at University of Detroit.

In 1954, he married his high school sweetheart, Joanne L. Howse, and began his career at General Motors. During his 40 years at General Motors, Gordon worked for Fisher Body, served as plant comptroller and coordinated information systems for the General Motors account with EDS.

After retirement, Gordon and Joanne divided their time between Venice and Traverse City, Mich., in an attempt to avoid winter and play golf all year long.

Gordon will be remembered for his strong faith, his lifetime involvement in his local church, his dedication to his family and his passion for Michigan State athletics. An avid golfer, Gordon rarely missed the opportunity to play golf and was continually striving to perfect his swing. He also loved to travel and took many wonderful trips with his family.

Gordon is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joanne L. Curnow; his daughter, Loralee (Rex) Sprunger, and two grandsons, Eric and Matthew Sprunger, all of Boerne, Texas; his sister, Ann (Doug) Hanton of Ann Arbor, Mich.; his brother, John (Nancy) Curnow of Rochester, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents.

Services: A memorial service for the family will be held in Michigan at a later time.

Contributions: Memorials may be made in Gordon’s honor to Christ United Methodist Church, 1475 Center Road, Venice FL 34292.
