On Halloween, a U.S. district judge entered an order denying a motion for a new trial filed by Demitri Serianni.

Serianni, a Venice police officer, sued the city and its former police chief for retaliation on Sept. 1, 2010. The case went to a jury trial in August. The jury ruled in favor of the city after a seven-day trial.
