Venice's Lauren Mattmuller finishes one of her seven kills during the Indians' sweep of Fort Myers Tuesday night. Mattmuller also had six blocks.
The Teepee has hosted numerous big matches in its storied history, but Tuesday’s rubber match between Fort Myers and Venice, the No. 1 teams in the state in Class 6A and 7A, had the potential to be another classic.
Instead of engaging in a back-and-forth thriller, the Indians (21-3) promptly swept the Green Wave (20-3) 25-22, 25-22, 25-20 in the second-to-last match that will be played in Venice High’s historic gym. Fort Myers gave Venice its first loss of the season, and the Indians returned the favor a few weeks ago at the Tampa Prep Tournament.
